its the 1920s & 1950s RED SCARE all over : only this time, the REDS are wearing MASKS...

The CONS’ Red Scare is back : only this time the anarchist-communists are wearing masks, not throwing bombs or stealing atomic secrets.

And it has got to stop ! A store clerk recently explained the sharp rise in my favourite brand of canned milk by simply saying “its the price of tin”.

Apparently the tin can is now worth far more than the milk contained within - due to conservatives mistakingly bidding up tin mining shares (their G5 protection “tin hats“ are actually made of aluminum).

Yes, I am joking : but this is serious:

The more scientific evidence emerges that social distancing combined with masks are far better at preventing the spread of Covid-19 than the original plea to engage in excessive washing down of everything in sight, the more the CONS fight back.

Spraying down newspapers in diluted blench was acceptable but touching my face with a mask is not, even if it actually sharply reduce the pandemic - and thus lets the economy get back to work - as the CONS want so much !

Contrary minded just for the sake of being contrary.

Science’s sin is that the CONS think all scientists are liberals.

Ironically, the evidence suggests until 1965 marking the informal end to High Modernity, scientists - and academics in general - were overwhelmingly conservative.

In the USA, university communities were seen as the safest GOP areas - today they are same - but for the Democrats. So clearly their animus in this case is based on facts.

But is Science pro-liberal because conservatives are anti-Science ?

The evidence seems to be that as Science grew to be less about developing techniques to grow production (and hence grow wealth, as narrowly defined as more money not a better life) and the more time it devoted to examining the harmful effects of those new production techniques, the more the CONS began to hate it.

The classic example is when scientists stopped perfecting leaded gas and began examining the harmful effects of lead gas on young kids.

The problem is that philosophically, conservative thought - yes, it does exist ! - has abandoned its traditional roots in ethics, treasuring the certitudes of goodly living, and moved into economics, reducing all existence to its accounting value in dollars and cents.

Conservatives, unreflectively, have become self-centred libertarians.

Conservatives need to remove these CONS : these greedy self-centred, too often violently paranoid libertarians - from their ranks and once again hew to their traditional values.

Traditional collectivist values : we all should wear masks for the common good...
