If J Michael Mac does to Portapique victims what he did to Regan babysitter victims, fear the worst : the absolute worst...

at the heart of the babysitters case was not rape but two acts of BETRAYAL : (1) parents trusting the good catholic family man with the big family living next door  (2) the same parents trusting a judge to do right

In my view, by far and away the strongest part of the entire Regan rape trial was the that of three babysitters from central Halifax, daughters of his close friends and closer neighbours : parents who had trusted the nice family man from right across the street explicitly.

It would make a terrific if terrifying made-for-TV movie : every parents’ worst nightmare. Of course you trust the nice catholic family man with the big family of kids, living right next door to you, with your babysitting daughters. Then : Amityville Horrors...

The judge felt otherwise - or far more likely - agreed with me.

J Michael is no fool : he senses the public & jury optics on this betrayal of trusting parents would send the province’s top Grit to the slammer forever.

He tossed their cases out posthaste.

The overall case, in my view, was doomed to failure from that point on.

The Grit’s man, now a fully made man, went on to higher and higher things.

But I resign myself to my honest belief that his ultimate reward will come on Judgement Day....
