While most of us can’t handle even one death very well, some of us chose to join professions where dealing with death on a daly basis is either our only job (morticians and morgue attendants) or a major part of the job : medical staff, first responders, priests etc.
Its tough work but they somehow manage.
But in the world’s larger centres hit hard by covid, the new pressures must be overwhelming our usually overlooked “Last Responders”.
So many bodies, all stripped of their the traditional dignity of a long slow funeral service, rapidly dumped in hastily dug mass graves by overly tired, heavily depressed grave workers.
They too will bear long term scars from this modern Plague Year....
This is entirely too nuanced a subject to comment on and has entirely become an issue of group-think. I encourge everyone to check out CIDRAP and Michael Osterholm's podcast "the Osterholm update" there's some nuance to the facts of viral transmission regarding aerosol transmission and how effective surgical masks are. I can't really break down here how aerosol transmission is the main mode of transmission of respiratory viruses and the flu, SARS, mers and SARS cov 2 all infect primarily via aerosols. where a surgical mask provides limited if any protection. Droplet and aerosol is a false dichotomy. An aerosol is just a tiny droplet, if I speak loudly droplets turn into aerosols. Regardless theres x1000 the virus in the throats of SARS cov 2 patients before they feel sick, (as sars patients)everyone breathes out aerosols, thousands per couple minutes. Its like Donald Milton and Michael Osterholm have been saying for years, its just not a debate anymore. Our public health lied. Dr Strang Lied about droplet transmission, lied about the need for N95 protection. His one job is to tell the truth and give the best science there and he obscured the truth for a happy lie. Michael Osterholm is the leading expert on pandemic preparedness in the world, he went on Oprah ten years ago and told the crowd he'd infect the first 3 rows of people just talking, wearing a surgical mask, that it was cosmetic. He was talking about the flu being known as aersolized despite the oldscool and wrong droplet science. The same is true for SARS cov 2. Surgical mask is limited protection. A senior citizen riding a bus or 20 minutes doctors appointment needs N95 protection, maybe a quick trip into a well ventilated area surgical mask is useful. The nuance of science is being left out for easily digestable lies. That let mcniel tell nurses union they should be embarrassed for trying to get their names in the news during a pandemic when they requested N95 for nurses. More will die until we accept the science. I'm not anti mask, I wear N95 protection if I need it. Like Osterholm says. This is happy talk not straight talk. We need to accept reality here. NorthWood in part got hit so hard because of the govt insistence on ignoring g the science of aerosol transmission. It will happen again if we dont accept the facts.
