Avid CBC Radio listener Paul Wortman doesnt call the CBC - or did he ?

Why was Moncton NB’s Paul Wortman giving his exclusive story to a (here insert scare quote marks) a non-mainstream media outlet in another province ?

His main news source is CBC Radio but he didnt talk to them - or did he ?

Look I get it New Brunswick & New Brunswick media, I really do.

At times you feel a little like Africa : you never get media attention unless its a famine disaster or something.

I remember, sometime in the early 1990s I believe, to settling in front of my TV set one July 1st evening to watch a CBC TV gala visual celebration of our nation, from coast to coast to coast.

All of Canada’s provinces and territories got their 15 minutes of fame.

But hey, I thought afterwards, where’s New Brunswick - did I miss it ?

I had not - nor, it turned out, had anyone in the CBC.

No one noticed that on Dominion Day, for God’s sake, they had forgotten the province that first made the Dominion happen and had even named it the Dominion of Canada !

So why then, said New Brunswickers with one united bilingual breath, why tag our long-suffering province, the Belgium or Switzerland of Canada for excitement, with being the place that birthed and grew mass killer Gabriel Wortman, the province that was homebase for the majority of his life?

I bet if Paul did call CBC NB, they gave him the number of some sucker at CBC NS and then hung up abruptly.

Can you really blame them ?

  1. I found, listening to the recording of Sr. Wortman post on Frank Mag, that while he stated he is an avid CBC Radio listener, he claimed not to know several things about the events involving his son on April 18/19 that were reported and discussed repeatedly on CBC Radio. I know because I was listening to CBC Radio for information. Eg., he claimed not to know the son had assaulted and restrained his common-law until Frank Mag told him. There were other things as well, but I'd have to go back and listen again to find them.

  2. Paul may have been in hospital for some or much of this time

  3. From the beginning I have thought about children raised in homes with a parent who has Narcissistic Personality Disorder. The taped interview reinforced that consideration for me. I found the interviewee to be manipulative.

    1. I didnt feel that - though we both only heard selections of the whole interview - maybe 25%.
I simply cant find ANYTHING about Paul's own family and wonder sometimes did his mom and the younger kids move to beaverton ontario area while paul remained in moncton finishing his high school - I simply do not know.

    2. I agree that we didn't hear all that was discussed. I too have been looking at ancestry without success.

    3. I focus on "survived by" and "find a grave" but nothing - we know 4 of the family's names : Paul, Alan, Chris and Glynn Wortman and that Chris and Alan were RCMP, We can find them on various high school reunion lists, for what that is worth. We even know their year of birth or very close to it and all of them.
Its a mystery. We even know Paul lived in Fitchburg Ma, Cleveland and Phoenix as well as Moncton and Riverview.

  4. Hello! You Say one of the Brothers is named Chris. I did not stumble across a Chris. However I thought a brother was named Neil and was married to a Annette because one of their children refered to Alan as 'uncle'. Could You possibly clarify what relation Neil is to Paul and the rest? Thank You very much, sir!

    1. Paul himself on tape calls his brothers Alan and Chris and Glynn ,mentions his mom, no name - never mentions his dad.
I too read media reports about Neil Wortman - I only found a Neil Wortman in Hammonds Plains Hfx - his dad Lorne from Riverview, and unusually for a Wortman, was socially prominent. Neil's Wife is Renita. But no links in the obit to any of our Wortmans.
Graydon Wortman from Plaster Rock in his obit mentions daughters in Alberta , almost certain they were aunt and mother of murdered Trevor Wortman. But one son Gary lives in tiny tiny tiny Beaverton Ontario which is where RCMP retiree Alan Ross Wortman went to high school but says he from Moncton.
No links in Graydon's obit to our Wortmans.
No luck at all finding Chris Wortman. Glynn in Moncton area nursing home.
BUT Graydon daughter Murial Wortman from Alberta did seem to know Alan Ross Wortman pretty well on Facebook -maybe via him and gary being at Brock HS at almost same time ?
      I cant figure it out.

and yes the murdered trevor wortman in alberta but I cant figure out, from obit notices, the connection between alan wortman and the aunt of trevor.

  5. Your Neil and Annette's children calling Alan an uncle is interesting - but can you give more details.
Canada 411 isnt perfect but still startling how few Wortmans in all of Canada - I searched that name for every province in Canada 411 - handfuls, at best. We should be looking for needles in a very small haystack.

  6. Okay, I found a Neil and Annette Wortman - he was born in Stratford Ontario. Older than Paul as well.

  7. The real problem is that the people who know all these answers and more live in New Brunswick and have no desire for Gabe's story to shift from being a horrible NS story to becoming a horrible NB story. They're talking - sure - but only amongst themselves and not to any media.

  8. So NB is playing dead hoping that everyone's attention is shifted and it doesn't get mauled. Back to Neil and Annette, they now live in Sheldiac, NB, and Annette keeps in touch, as reflected on public FB posts, with GW's brother and his wife.

    1. You are 100% right Neil's family is treating Jeff Samuelson like family. Neil's dad, Stanley Otis Wortman, was born in Moncton in 1918.
He was one of the many sons of George Otto Wortman - one of which has to be the father of Paul Wortman and grandfather of Gabe, unless the Neil Wortman family is greeting every Wortman in the world as kin - and they aren't.
Neil isn't a brother of Paul or Glynn or Allan or Chris, if obits of his dad and mom are to be trusted.
George had sons Robert (died in service WWII) ,Stanley (Neil's pa), Donald in Ontario, Doug, James Turtle Creek NB and Arnold.
Donald is out as in Ontario, Doug obit doesnt mention Paul et al.
That leaves only James and Arnold......
