Can you tell difference ‘tween the NB Irving newspapers & CBC NB’s non-coverage of the formative years in Moncton that produced our country’s worst mass killer, Gabriel Wortman ?

I can’t.

Instead, it is left to a Halifax Nova Scotia newspaper and a Halifax reporter, Andrew Rankin, to give us the inside story of the horribly warped upbringing of Gabriel Wortman, replete with tons of Moncton area family photos and tons of Moncton area family informants.

Any New Brunswick born and bred reporter, with a lifetime of contacts could have - should have - done this story months ago.

And with all that home team advantage, done it better to boot.

There is an awful lot of things wrong with New Brunswick : Gabriel Wortman’s upbringing is only one of them....

  1. True enough and yet the chronicle herald kind of leaves one reeling in disgust all the same. They refuse to name Gabriel Wortman and Lisa Banfield barely cover the massacre and refuse to do proper investigative journalism or ask tough questions. Than out with this article deep diving into Wortman's childhood and it's hard not to read into the story and the title that the chronicle herlad is trying to pass along that these traumas can create monsters. It's just standard social science model liberal horse-shit. Margo Wilson and Martin Daly in their landmark text "homicide" show that spree killing is usually the result of a person snapping after a loss of status/face, usually a man, in every society or culture ever studied. Kleomedes brought a roof down on children because he was disqualified from Olympia not because his daddy beat him when he didnt clean dog shit. Same reason some young nobody tosses a grenade into a crowd in an amok attack. Large amounts of evidence and data to indicate this obsession about Wortman's early years isn't going to be the gold mine of meaning chronicle herald thinks, the reason he went beserk is better explained by a loss of status or face, as of yet, the chronicle herald seems content to ignore reporting or investigating what that might be. Sold out by the RCMP, a breakup or humiliation by a spouse, something along those lines. Fair enough criticism of NB but the chronicle herald digging into Wortman's psychological profile and childhood should probably come after they do basic journalism on the massacre. Chronicle herald didn't report on Leon Joudrey saying he didn't believe Lisa Banfield was in the woods all night etc, the EHS recordings available since day 1, etc. Chronicle herald is promoting a world view consistent with the standard social science model which was discredited as nonsense years ago. Would have made more sense for the story to come from New Brunswick, alongside the Chris Lambie story about the big brained officer at bigstop it's a bad look for CH. Even though I tend to think Andrew Rankin is a good writer and has been doing a good job to fill out the stories edges. CH should print what they can sell but I wish their readers would hold them to a higher standard and demand more or let the paper sink into failure. Honestly CH just seems to be trying to prove their rectitude over other media by being the first to be woke enough to point out that sure Lisa is a victim but hey, he was a victim of his mean father and we shouldnt ignore that. Its a strange position to take while not using Gabriel Wortman's name. Its a strange position to take because they have refused to name Wortman to provide a fake distance between him and the avg civilian, who is just as capable of mass murder, they've done some work to paint him as inhuman by refusing to use the name and then change directions and gave us glamour pics of Gabriel posing with a ciggarette. Its incoherent journalism.

  2. Also as a concerned Nova Scotian Citizen, one ought to be appalled at the virtue signaling that the All Might Choronical Herald is exceriting. This warpped depiction of a mass murder fails to explain true motive. What, Wortman had amass millions in liquid and hard assets to waste it all away and destroy countless lives in the process because Daddy tanned his hide too often as a kid and didn't tuck him in bed at night and read him Robert Munch's "I'll Love You Forever"? GTFOH. Occam's Razor might suggest that the most simplistic explanation is best, but only a willing dolt would buy into a 51 year old man committing Canada's worst mass murder spree because of of a dysfunctional childhood. If Wortman actually had a reason to feel so sorry for himself, he'd would have turned his own lights out decade's ago. Don't believe the horseshit Rankin is turning out.
