| COVID isn’t yet hitting the GOLF & Country Set yet : so why wear masks ? |
This reverses centuries of public health cliches wherein the rich are (more or less willingly) taxed to pay for public health measures that prevent fatal infections among the poor spreading to the rich.
Republicans and their kin, around the world, tend to live in big homes on spacious lots in the semi-rural suburbia, they don’t tend to be frontline employees forced to travel on crowded public transit to deal face-to-face with hundreds of people every day, and they can afford better hospital care - and are treated better by the public health systems - than are poor people.
I haven’t mention racism for a very good reason : because rich colored folk in India get far better health treatment than do poor colored folk in India.
A country like Canada supposedly has the same free public health system for all : regardless of race, color, age, religion, place of birth etc.
Get real : the system may be neutral but the people manning and woman-ning it : you, me and our neighbours, still tend to pick and choose those among our fellow citizens we will go the extra mile for and those we kiss off with indifferent care.
Bottom line : a disproportional number of Canadians who tested positive for Covid and died of it, were poor. Perhaps poor and colored and immigrant , but definitely poor for sure.
The GOP knows all about Covid’s big death total numbers for America but they simply aren’t seeing those same big death figures among ‘their kind of people’ : the sort of people who they went to private high school with, golf with, work with, whose funerals they feel they must attend.
Until that starts happening, they won’t wear masks.
Heck they may even be secretly cheering on every additional news report that indicates Covid is killing off America’s blacks especially hard...
They'll get it eventually and some will do better due to wealth and the effects of privledge however Covid does discriminate against humans. Ones with comorbidity, the fat ones, the diabetic, the old the ones suffering from the disease of privledge of wealth. According to Michael Osterholm this virus is here now, it's not going away and is a forest fire that will continue to find wood to burn (humans) until 70% of us have been infected and herd immunity is achieved naturally or a vaccine. (Don't count on it). We still don't know if durable immunity exists. Luckily theres a reusable washable n95 being produced, a respirator that does stop viruses as surgical masks are in fact incremental at best and in full honestly they haven't and won't run this pandemic into the ground it's happy talk. You'll see some of these Republican's screaming about not wanting to wear a surgical mask in the shower (when theyre not writing law books) wear those reusable N95. These guys are not as stupid as they pretend on TV. I wonder what Donald thought as covid and stern fate closed Robert's eyes forever? Turns out it didnt go away in April, summer didnt effect transmission, it wasnt a hoax. Michael Osterholm has been sounding the alarm bell for decades. We're not addressing any of dozens of the issues he's brought up either. What about the fragile supply chains for most medication, the lack of reageants for testing. Running out of the medicine to sedate those on ventilators, not enough syringes and glass vials, its an endless laundry list that CIDRAP has been warning about and Osterholm has been warning about FOREVER. Just reading "deadliest enemy our war against killer germs". Great Osterholm predicted this pandemic with the massive accuracy made it his life's mission to prepare and mitigate and our governments ignored it. Osterholm went to the n95 head office and told them to essentially mass produce N95 to dial up their production as far as it could go long before the virus reached north america... Why was the government so slow? They still deny aerosol transmission it's like denying a round earth it's folly and madness. It's embarrassing, it's shameful, it's evil. (If Orwell can describe a taste as evil I'll call Strang's misinformation campaign about droplet transmission for what it is, evil happy talk.) Did you see the WHO organization slipped aerosol transmission into the definition of droplet? Added inhalation of small droplets. Well look lije Lisa Brosseau said you can't add the definition of aerosol transmission into droplet ( which refers exclusively to droplets being absorbed via mucuous membranes) yes the global forest fire was caused by us sneezing and coughing droplets into each others mouth and eyes in a big circle of friendship? No, the aerosols come flooding out simply breathing and theyre carrying infectious level dose of virus with them. That was known by Taiwan VERY early but WHO suppressed it for political reasons. WHO told Mike Osterholm they'll never say only N95 is good enough no matter the truth as most countries can't afford them... Uh... What about the truth? What about 2+2=4? What about the risk of amputating science from public policy? Well the response is: shut up and put on a surgical mask traitor, are you a comrade or a traitor? These covid briefings started to take on a "2 minute hate" feel. Sure we all hate the virus but do you hate it the right way? The proper way? You can't be just in agreement you need to agree in just the right way. Well the truth of the masks working or not seems to not be the issue, the issue is to speak out about it is now traitorous. Reminds me of Emile Zola's quote: "A shameful terror reigns, the bravest turn cowards, and no one dares say what he thinks for fear of being denounced as a traitor and a bribe-taker. The few newspapers which at first stood out for justice are now crawling in the dust before their readers . . ."
ReplyDelete4000 word limit? What!? I can't write a book in review of a blog post? Orwell wrote two book length analysis of a tropic of cancer and dickens works. You can't accuse anyone of commiting the essential Jonah act of allowing themselves to be swallowed by the whale, willingly, passively in less than that! I was going down that long winding road towards saying as much about people who turn their minds off to swallow orthodoxy lies. Michael Crichton brought attention to this amnesia. People read the news reporting on the RCMP and go apopleptic over the lies (or any subject they know) then move on to a subject they don't and nod their head knowingly in agreement. No one reading "molecular biology of the cell" or "human molecular genetics vol 3" is going to say "oh that surgical mask works" against viruses that infect cells and become part of our genome... Lol really? Everyone realizes a colander can't be used to hold a bowl of broth right? Well that's a surgical mask. The colander is better than nothing, it has an incremental effect but you can't hold water which is the only question that matters. All of a sudden the chattle eyed herd are all aerobiology, industrial hygeine, respitory virus/protection and epidiemolgy specialists that's interesting for a group of people that would rather have broke their own hand then read a biology book before the pandemic. It's become an issue that it is written in stone but the stone tablets never say "2+2=4" they're never self evident truths are they? They're always group think that needs endless affirmation for even the people pushing them to believe. I can't even look at Strang anymore. I wish we had Michael Osterholm as pronvince Epidiemologist and not that Strang garbage. I've lost trust in most guys outside Michael Osterholm, he's the last decent man. (Nah the full CIDRAP team and many others are great. Lisa Brosseau is golden) it's the truth at CIDRAP. I fully encourage everyone to use that as their source of information to navigate this pandemic. Those fellows weeks ahead of WHO declared the pandemic. It's lucky I managed to find such an amazing source. CIDRAP is doing infectious dose studies to figure out what protection is needed and when and when, they've brought together a small Manhattan project of experts to help us through. While Strang played hide the epidiemolgy for months...
