MODERNITY takes a bullet as BROOKS BROTHERS file for bankruptcy

RIBBED, for added up-tightness...
Along with a pickle up the ass, nothing better defined Modernity’s uptight anal-repressed nature than its love of tight dark suits, tight ties, starched white shirts and short haircuts.

In our own Post-Modern era, the bad guys are still wearing the business suits & ties and the good guys are the ones wearing the face masks. (Hello DT45, hello NRA.)

”The Suits“ remain the button men of Organized Modernity.

So imagine my delight when Brooks Brothers bellied up this week...

with a 1200 fps ‘airgun’ from BASS PRO SHOPS, your kid can grow up just like Gabriel Wortman

lethal ? Just ask any hitman that you know....
If you still think airguns are harmless fun for boys of all age, you haven’t been looking at your flyers from BASS PRO SHOPS.

A Crosman Shockwave airgun delivers 1200 fps - the velocity choice of every sensible hitman.

Yes, your teen has to be 18 and have a PAL certificate, unless you buy it and let him use in the woods behind your house. (Worked for Gabriel Wortman when he was a kid.)

Or you just buy your underage kid airguns that look just like the real thing : be it the drug trade’s pistol of choice or a replica of WWII Nazi submachines that are fully automatic, just like the ones that those used by the Einsatzgruppen at Babi Yar.

Once your teen reaches 18, why not a GSG 16 semi automatic rifle : looking just like the weapons used in endless extra-judicial executions and mass murders around the world.

That’s how Gabriel Wortman began his life long fascination with human-killing machines : as a kid with an illegal high-powered air rifle smuggled in across the border from the US by his American relative from Michigan.

But times have changed : now you can buy lethal airguns perfectly legally, at your friendly Bass Pro Shop....

Kipling Scott MacKenzie & Gabriel Wortman & killer cop cars

CLAN MACKENZIE  helps out ....
Registering a corporation in one province to operate exclusively in another is a slick move, if you want to hide below the radar when buying cop cars despite a court conviction for violence.

So, the Globe & Mail reported Sunday, in 2010 Gabe Wortman bought a Fredericton based plant maintenance business off of Kipling Scott Mackenzie, a man they say has with a long criminal record, frequently before the courts here in NS.

I believe most know him as Kip or Scott and that he originally came from Pictou town.

(Mackenzies are as thick on the ground in Pictou County as Chisholms are in Antigonish, or goat weed is elsewhere.)

Not sure if plant maintenance involved plant hydroponics but that is moot : once bought, Gabe was able to use the cover of this NB corporation (Berkshire Broman) to safely buy his cop cars and plan his big date with evil destiny....

Will Gabriel Wortman autopsy reveal antibodies to HIV ?

No one gives a toss about the money trail : but the Wortman SEX trail  rouses great public interest, scares cops & politicians
Stifle your snickers about how bad the American medical system is vis vis Covid-19.

Because the Yankee medical system is certainly is no slouch when it comes to revealing complex autopsy results whenever someone in America with public significance dies ; including various blood tests for drugs and antibodies.

But in Canada, we are so inept  - apparently - if you can trust the authorities to tell the truth (you shouldn’t !) that it takes months and months and months and months to do all that complicated stuff.

Case in point - though it is but one example where Canadian medical professionals work hand in glove with police and crown to delay news until it is no longer news - is the autopsy on Gabriel Wortman, shot by cops ten weeks ago and subject to a long, long, long, investigation by NS’s secretive SIRT agency.

I think its headed by by QAnon & George Soros and all its staffers wear tin.

(Hats - not badges.)

Rumour has it that the reason for the delay is that one autopsy test* revealed that Gabe had antibodies to HIV and HIV spells sex and sex spells public interest like nothing else and that means the big media is forced to return to reporting on the overall Wortman story.

That is that very last thing our Premier wants : because the only person in this story with more relatives who were cops than Wortman, was the premier himself.

He worries that the bungled response to the Portapique shootings could queer his re-election chance in rural Nova Scotia, his power base.

For other reasons, the RCMP - particularly the New Brunswick RCMP who seemed to have had the final say over the NS mounties’ Portapique response (just like the way they ran drug CIs in the Nova Scotia) also want to see the Wortman story to die away....

* My gut instinct is that the medical team didn’t even think to run a routine test for HIV antibodies before they allowed the body to burn to ashes, rendering any such questions forever moot.

to regular readers of this blog, major revelation in G&M investigation into Gabriel Wortman was the cigarette smuggling

I don’t think anyone mentioned ciggie smuggling as the childhood basis of the WORTMAN crime empire
The July 5th 2020 Globe & Mail story confirms much that this blog has speculated - as a historian might - from the known facts and surrounding context - over the last ten weeks.

But it does offer a totally new and totally reasonable explanation for just why the (adult) Gabe needed so many false ids and always needed to always be going out mysterious at night while he was a student at UNB.

He paid his way through college by smuggling black market cigarettes across the Maine/NB border.

He later tried to expand into grass ‘cigarettes’ with the help of a Hells Angels handyman.

G&M confirms his boyhood love of guns, hatred of slow buses and love of illegal speeding, with the ciggie smuggling an explanation for his his spending well above his legitimate income and his deep need to hang around crooks.

The poor people who are overwhelmingly the people who go to denturists, if we are frank, (most Canadians hate to be frank) are used to dealing in cash. Cash payments allowed Wortman to pay very little income tax : he hated paying his share of taxes as much as he hated gun control laws and speed signs.

Almost more American than Canadian in his habits : his grandmother Doris’s American ‘friend’  in his formative years ?

The emotional wreckage of his early childhood is well confirmed, with the family moving constantly, the father hopping the freights to find work - perhaps the reason why Evelyn - on her own, in her own words, put her second child up for adoption.

The multi-generation of violent fathers among the Wortmans.

His heavy drinking whenever he got depressed - leading to acts of violence.

His casual adultery during both of his long term relationships.

Did I just say “both” of his long term relationships ? Yes, I guess I did ....

His attempts to have sex with his female patients —- again where were other denturists while this was going on ?

NS society is byzantine everybody know somebody who knows something : gossip is 30% of the provincial GDP after all.

Its a must read article  .....

ADDENDUM : the revelation that Gabe’s father, Paul, who Gabe disliked, was a wheeler-dealer in buying and selling properties helps explain why his grown up son was so obsessed with real estate ——-and property boundary lines

was Gabriel Wortman ‘thinking aloud’ about revenge rampages even back in 2004 ?

Denturist Gabriel Wortman liked to exercise his own jaws as much as he liked to work on yours
“Chatty” and “Mass Murderer” are usually thought of going together : far from it.

But evil human beings remain human beings : social media comments that see Gabriel Wortman as not human, as 100% evil, are on the same moral plane as Hitler saying the same things about Jewish human beings.

More and more we are at 40 Gallons & a Mule can’t help noticing how chatty Gabriel Wortman was, at least to his clients.

Talking a blue streak, joking, smiling, laughing. Hardly the strong silent male, to his clients at least.

Social Media is still revealing angles of Wortman that the RCMP has probably already gathered dozens of examples of : gathered after warning their, erm, ‘informants’ not to talk about them elsewhere.

Thankful some ignore this misleading advice or avoid the RCMP like the way a horse avoids a barn-burner.

The latest example is a woman, who together with her then young son, went into Wortman’s Portland Street denture clinic in 2004.

She came out feeling, “way, way too much information” - particularly in front of her young son - about Gabe’s fantasy’s of revenge upon those he felt owed him something - fantasies disturbing enough for her to call the cops.

Particularly as she says they involved, wait for it ! - a cop car. This is in 2004, remember.

Not sure if she called the NS Denturists’ Board - who have a strict code of conduct, typical of all medical professions.

And Gabe’s behaviour in a medical, professional, setting, was hardly that.

I hope the silence from the denturists and their board and society gets a probing twice over at any public inquiry.

They are, after all, about the size of a tiny Antigonish County catholic family : a mere two dozen in total : they knew him best, knew him longest.

But seemingly did nothing, said nothing. (Other than make him a director of the Denturist Society !)

But back to the HRM cops : she said they felt there were “no red flags” raised.

I hope to God that today’s coppers get a little training in spotting “injustice collectors” and their various red flags.

Because statistically, mass murderers aka injustice collectors, despite their small numbers, make up a significant percentage of our nation’s total first degree murder count. 23 innocents dead of first degree murder in NS.

What is that ? Five years worth of 1st degree murders in Nova Scotia, delivered to us and the police by one guy alone ?

Bottom line : nothing was put in the police computer database about this violent fantasy/ firm plan (despite his recent (2002) conviction for beating up a child at that same clinic) and once again Wortman-not-a-CI skated.

And yes, we have no news on whether his parole officer considered this violent fantasy - revealed to total strangers - was a sign that GW’s 2002 “anger management course” hadn’t quite stuck.....

CI-GETTING-AWAY-WITH-MURDER update : Wortman client says he told her of rampage plans in 2004 : cops did nothing (AGAIN)

RCMP insists GW is NOT a CI : just very, very, very, lucky....
A Dartmouth mom reports, on a FACEBOOK forum devoted to dissecting the Portapique mass shootings, that the always chatty Gabriel Wortman unleashed a real corker on her and her young son when they went as clients to his Portland Street denture clinic back in 2004.

He spoke then - in 2004 ! - of planning a really big scary something, because he felt something was owed to him - whatever he was planning involved the use of a police car.

She said the police were called about his plans but they told her “ no red flags” and so nothing was done.

Seemingly, it never even made it onto the permanent police computer database and in this age of policing-by-wire (& patrolling from distant galaxies) that’s as good as saying it never ever happened.

So folks, with due Canadian Deference-To-Authorities, let’s just leave it as that : if the authorities say it never happened, it never happened .

Have you -ever- known a Canadian authority to lie ?

Well have you, punk ? Have you ?

Do you feel truthful, punk ?

how to tell the GOOD GUYS from the BAD GUYS : masks & suits

the shinier the suit, the slicker the tie : the more crooked they are....
Welcome to the 21st century ; its not your granddad’s century : things have changed.

Today, the guys in masks are not planning to rob the train : that’s you and I just going about our daily existence  : smart, sensible, law-abiding people.

And the guys in suits? Without the masks ?

They’re the bad guys- trust me on this one : the baddest guys in the whole wide world are the guys with the sharpest ties and the shiniest suits.

....not just in America but around the world : today, when the bad guys horse up and head to your town, oater, they ain’t packing a sixshooter : they’re packin’ bespoke suits....

Crown brings up CIs - repeatedly - in the Gabriel Wortman file, only to dismiss it : methinks they douth protest too much...

the CROWN is queering the Ceeb’s pitch .....
It must be some new fangled brain-dead mental tick (or an age-old guilty conscience) that is causing the crowns to constantly bring up CIs (confidential informants) in the Gabriel Wortman hearings to decide just how much of the ‘public’ court search warrant documents the ‘public’ can be safely allowed to read.

Because just as fast as the words CI roll off their honeyed tongues it rolls back in again : they claim, (under oath ?) that there  are no CIs involved in either with GW or with the search warrants about him issued after his death.

(I repeat - because it bears repeating - no search warrants were ever issued in Wortman’s 23 years of violence prior to his killing 23 innocents in April 2020).

Those loose-lipped crown attorneys are making the job of the CBC so very much harder.

Because the job of CBC employees, at least as they see it ( inside the John Reith-addled parts of their brains)  is to only tell their employers, the taxpayers, what news the CBC thinks they should hear.

Guarding the gates of ‘Legitimate Controversy’, to use media critic Daniel Hallin’s indelicate phrase.

And the CBC early on decided - another brain-dead mental tick or another set of guilty consciences ? - that using GW & CI in the same sentence of CBC News was just not on.

But the Crown - ultimately QEII herself - is ever-busy, queering that particular pitch....

DISCRETION is the biggest part of police racism & classism

name of woman using “puppy-as-a-weapon” during road rage unknown : but probably KAREN...
If a father beats the heck out of his spouse or children, the police are supposed to ‘pursue charges’, to use that quaint phrase, even if the victims don’t want to.

They certainly tend to ‘pursue charges’ if the victim is dead. Most of the time.

But if four women in two cars go at it with threats and fists and shaken puppies on a north end Dartmouth street, will police ‘pursue charges’ even if the victims won’t ?

Depends ; if they are white, middle class, middle aged : probably not.

But if they are young, poor and minority ; maybe they will.

Will prosecutors deal harshly or gently ?

In both cases, police and crown attorneys have wide latitude - the technical word is “discretion’ -  as to if and how they proceed.

This - rather than the occasional kneeling on neck until dead - is how systemic racism and classism feels daily to most  people who are poor or minority or both.

Subtle but just as deadening - and much much more pervasive....

will the high cost of long distance electricity transmission shift population out of metros : back to the rurals ?

a top economist not too proud to talk to peasants - and to really listen...
Perhaps the smartest economist who ever lived, Romanian-born Nicholas Georgscu-Roegen, was the first to really make sense of what the varied land usage of the world’s energy sources really meant as to how we lived and where we lived.

Despite cities being as old as the day humans first began to stop being ever-travelling hunter-gatherers, they weren’t very big into well into the 19th century : their size being limited to the reasonable distance low-density energy in the form of wood or agricultural waste could be economically transported into the city from its rural fringes.

But coal mines and oil wells are highly ‘vertical’ forms of energy : a lot of high density concentrated energy can come out of the millions of tons of coal or oil that emerges from a very small portion of the Earth’s surface.

Highly dense energy means its cheap to transport long distance per megawatt of energy contained within.

As a result small cities could become mega-cities —- and still do.

This meant a change from thousands of years when diffuse sunshine, blowing wind, running water, along with the sun-grown and watered crops of forests and fields  provided humanity with ‘horizontal’ sources of low density, un-concentrated energy that was most economically consumed locally - in the rural parts of the world.

But we are running out of high density energy : organic material has always rotted back to basic carbon and hydrogen but only special - one time - conditions led it to form the vast beds of coal, oil and gas during the Coal Era.

Soon we will return to pre-1832, pre-Reform Act, conditions : conditions where wealth will be formed on the basis of land ownership : the more you have, the wealthier you are.

Perhaps not a return to a few aristocrats owning 90% of the land ; well not unless voters let that happen.

But a society where much more energy is made and consumed locally, in small factories making lightweight high density high value, cheap to ship, components that made be cheaply assembled at their points of final use.

Bulky, heavy low value products will tend to be made and consumed locally.

This means fewer buildings and infrastructure that are not deliberately designed to be made, adequately, from local materials rather than being built to be the best, but need distant exotic materials.

Compare for example, the soft wood constructed homes of northern European peasants to the sun-dried brick homes of the peasants of Egypt, made from mud and straw : in both cases, homes built with materials found a few feet from their door.

Electrical cars and trucks will likely be nowhere as cheap to operate as when cheap oil was around.

Long distance suburban commuting to big covid-prone mega-cities will die out as more people work where they live : either with all of their hands in local factories or with only their keyboard fingers, in fibre-connected offices.

Economically, there is no reason why almost all the electrical energy in the USA can’t come from a few hundred mega solar farms owned by a handful of giant corporations : but will this fly in a nation with a very strong tradition of localism in its electoral politics ?

The political scientist in me says no.

Political power will shift to the parts of the world where extensive but low intensity energy can flourish : that means back to the rurals and away from megacities.

Will it be the Green Party to lead this shift ?

Currently, I doubt it.

Most Greens aren’t really very green , at least, aren’t very deep green.

Herman Daly and Nicholas Georgescu-Roegen draw blank stares from most of its candidates.

They all definitely are very pro a wholesale rapid shift back to a renewable energy based economy, for sure.

But they fail to see what history suggests the resulting land use patterns would look like. Georgescu-Roegen, by listening carefully to peasants, clearly did.

I know about this failure to listen, to really listen from thousands of years of peasant experience worldwide, from my efforts in my local Green parties beginning in the early 2000s (big shout here to Katie Boudreau.)

Greens world-wide currently campaign hardest with big city voters, the voters most hurt by a shift to renewable energy and distain engaging rural voters, the voters most likely to benefit by the return to low intensity renewable energy.

Quite simply, Greens are not busy building the new economy ; they‘re currently too busy building electoral walls to bang their head against...

is SATIRE dead, as each day brings us new Karens Kalling Kops and pointing guns ?

America is full of KARENs - thankful, as yet, most don’t pull guns on little kids....
Pity the poor satirist.

They’ll have a hella of a job saying and doing any insanely stupid and insanely boorish (to make a moral point) that hasn’t already been said and done daily by endless numbers of American KARENs.

KARENs are (usually) white American women with big mouths, short fuses, an unhealthy amount of paranoia - and a cell phone speed-dialed to the closest gun-pointing cop : that is when they aren’t doing the gun pointing themselves.

Usually at little black girls, shopping at a shopping malls —- or daring to sell lemonade on public sidewalks.

Thankfully, actual physical violence remains still mostly a male activity, but as these KARENs become ever more visible, thanks largely to other people’s cell phones, its only a matter of time before we see video of when one finally snaps and goes postal, shooting up her entire suburban street.

There are Canadian KARENs - usually Canadian KARENs who watch FOX NEWS - probably always have been.

If fact, I will earnestly argue that Gabriel Wortman was a KAREN, before he became a mass killer.

He regularly beat up passing children if they dared to come too “near” to his front door at his two Dartmouth homes (a door ended at the public sidewalk : zero setback !!)

He threatened to shot rural neighbours if they stepped on his property and did burn down property of a rural neighbour because he imagined it touched “his” property.

A proper KAREN was he. So don’t just laugh at the KARENs we all know : they are potentially deadly.

Gradually, as we Canadians - a bashful race - become more comfortable videoing KARENs in full rage and posting it on social media, we will soon start to see here the same impossible-to-satirize news stories that we see daily coming out of America.

It is probably easier to tour a heavy metal band across a globe full of overcrowded stadiums today than it is to make a small living doing satire.

As long as the KARENs live, satire is dead....

a review of “The Greatest Good to the Greatest Number” by DONALD G ANDERSON, with assistance by david p adams

Is Comrade Dawson really wartime penicillin’s only VILLAIN - or was he, in fact,  its only HERO ?
Yes, yes, I know the book is officially recorded at the Registry of Copyrights and by the Library of Congress has having been written completely by David P Adams, with Donald G Anderson being but one of the people he interviewed.

But this is MY review, God Damn It, and that’s the way it reads to me.

A great danger among young PhD researchers is when your supervisor steers you to a vast archival treasure trove that no one else has really looked at : a great PhD, a great book, a great launch to your academic career. But your supervisor should also warn you about the dreaded Stockholm Archives Syndrome.

You have really got to balance your great secret find with extensive readings in other places , places that view these same events from a critically different point of view.

As a PhD and a book, the Greatest Good et al seems unduly dominated by a view of the whole WWII penicillin saga, as seen by the recently safely retired Dr Anderson, former deputy to wartime Penicillin Rationing Czar, Dr Chester Keefer, and accurately reflecting the recently deceased Keefer’s private wartime views as well.

It comes across as the semi-official history that the Keefer and Anderson felt that the NAS COC never really got at war’s end : as told to david p adams. They both deeply resented being seen by the wartime public as the leaders of cruel heartless (Republican) death panels.

But I have suggested they themselves created this situation by forever stalling on serious natural penicillin production, in the hopes of the OSRD-COC-Merck-Florey-Fleming-Oxford University collective that it would be soon synthesized (and patented ).

I think the book’s successful creation of Keefer as one of wartime’s penicillin’s chief heroes and the successful creation of his opponent, Dr Martin Henry Dawson, as wartime penicillin’s only villain is a complete Ministry of the Truth reversal of the evidence.

In fact the main reason I carry on researching my account of Dawson’s wartime penicillin efforts....

wartime penicillin saga was riddled with conflicts of interest

Chester Keefer, on the right, as was his wont : the bald guy on the left wasn’t Khrushchev, but Eisenhower : Keefer was Ike’s senior medical advisor in mid 1950s...
Coming across more as dutiful public stenographers than analytical dissectors, the work of professional historians on the fitful birth of wartime penicillin has not been one of that profession’s shining moments.

In particular, rather than skeptically tearing apart the roles of medical bureaucracies during the war, as they have all other wartime bureaucracies, they have tended to take the official penicillin accounts emanating from senior staffers of Committee of Medical Research ,Office of Scientific Research and Development (CMR, OSRD) at face value.

As they have those coming from the OSRD CMR’s main penicillin contractor, the National Academy of Science’s Committee on Chemical Therapeutics (NAS COC).

If you think the famous OSRD was WWII’s biggest and most powerful agency you are badly half wrong.

Firstly, you are definitely half right : the OSRD fully lives up its hype about being immensely powerful with no restraints (but once) on its actions and deep financial pockets from Congress or Press or even other Washington powerhouses during the entire war.

But you are badly wrong - beyond totally wrong - about it being a vast bureaucracy.

For the reason why not politician, journalist or jealous rival bureaucrat could lay a glove on it was because its head, Dr Vannevar Bush had accidentally aligned his deep personal beliefs with those of the two most powerful forces in Washington and in America.

One was rural farmer Democrats and the other was urban businessmen Republicans.

Together they both hated seeing all the economic power going to big government agencies in the big Eastern cities.

Bush promised and delivered, that his agency would remain tiny, dissolve instantly and permanently at the war’s end, and would disperse all its plentitudes of cash to scientific and engineering contractors all over the country, in universities and in companies.

So now that we know that OSRD’s main job was to act as a sort of hyper grant issuing agency, except without the traditional safeguards to make the process both public and fair.

Opportunities for conflicts of interest abounded.

Some historians have thus noted that the Head of the CMR, Dr Newton Richards was ALSO the chief medical advisor to Merck, throughout most of the war the key penicillin participant from the pharmaceutical industry from either side of the Atlantic.

It is child’s play to demonstrate that Richards favoured Merck over the other firms throughout the war - though I will add it was for reasons of a deeply shared belief with Merck that a synthetic chemical product was always the preferred solution to every medical problem.

I don’t mean Richards got a direct or indirect pay-off if and when penicillin was patented by Merck : I mean he and Merck’s owner George Merck shared a deep-seated belief both that private sector decision making over was always better than government proposals and that synthetic medicines were always preferable to natural medicines.

That latter only partially because synthetics could be profitably and privately patented.

But few have noted - none actually in my recollections - that Dr Richard’s deputy, Dr Chester Keefer, the medical administrative officer at CMR OSRD , the man charged with administrating the penicillin contracts was ALSO the chief penicillin contractor receiving those same contracts, as the all-powerful head of the NAS COC.

In this dual role : contractor and contractor granter, Keefer wasted a pile of the very rare penicillin on some very stupid medical avenues his team back in Boston was pursing : on non-life-threatening  non-infectious diseases.

Meanwhile other patients were dying for lack of enough penicillin in the hands of other penicillin investigators : saving their lives would also have advanced knowledge in the one area of medicine that even pre-school children know penicillin is only good at : curing bacterial infections.

As head of the NAS COC, Keefer - unlike either Richards or Bush - briefly became world famous, even to ordinary newspaper readers - as America’s Penicillin Czar, the man who held power over whether you lived or died, depending whether your fatal inflection was worth studying by his investigators.

So no contemporary historian ever fails to bring this aspect of Keefer fully into the light.

But may I kindly suggest this is because these professional historians are simply the latest in a long chain of penicillin writers who spent more time reading the period’s press clippings than they did in the government archives ?

That is excusable for earlier writers : they were not professional historians and the documents weren’t in the archives yet, let alone public.

But, in fact, Keefer  in his duel role as the OSRD deputy medical chief was always known : the semi-official and official accounts of the wartime OSRD were released very quickly at war’s end, became huge big best sellers and were found on the shelves of even small city public libraries : hidden in plain sight !

James Phinney Baxter’s semi-official 1946 purple prose best selling history of the OSRD “Scientists Against Time” even had a group photo of the OSRD CMR with Keefer clearly labelled as its medical admin officer : and we know that historians love to look at a book’s photos and to read their cutlines as much as ordinary folks !

Hard to miss, I’d say. But only if historians hadn’t all let their professional guard down on the wartime penicillin file.

I have written elsewhere why I feel the penicillin bureaucrats are still being lauded today when a good argument could be made that if the course of the war and of pandemic disease had turned out differently, they might have ended up against a wall being shoot.

They were extraordinarily lucky that no pandemic came along near the end of the war, as it had during WWI.

Because they knew that sulfa, the only bulwark against millions dead in a bacterial pandemic (and even virus pandemics like Covid 19 always end up killing via bacteria) was increasingly failing to cure, month by month.

Still they delayed and delayed , seeking a synthetic penicillin solution(that never came and has never come)  before being forced under extreme external pressure to finally reluctantly approve a mass scale up in production.

Only public pressure generated by the dying Dr Martin Henry Dawson - via a baby girl called Patricia - together with the success of his natural penicillin partner, a small adjunct to the soda pop industry called Pfizer - saved the OSRD/NAS/Allied bacon.

Typically, he died virtually unknown and his OSRD/NAS opponents picked up all the credit he deserved - as well as dissing him in the NAS COC’s semi official history as wartime Penicillin’s one villain !

the best MEDICAL intervention might be a BALLOT BOX

RED states : RED covid alert : death from last year’s decisions at the ballot box...
Rimming the southern edge of America is a band of counties where covid is bad, really bad, right now.

They are that long band of red in this county-by-county analysis done by Harvard Medical and revealed by NPR.

There is one big noticeable gap in that unbroken rim : the state of New Mexico.

The government and the political culture there is noticeably different than the rest of the South East/South/South West.

They took Covid seriously, imposed early and earnest safety measures and have maintained them.

So a purely physical reason why Covid is spreading so rapidly along the southern rim simply won’t wash.

You’ve heard it from endless GOP spokesmen, and I do mean “men” (sea of middled aged white men with well fed faces).

Yada, Yada : its all down to a vast network of roads with traditionally enormous inter-state travel horizontally across the South, rather than vertically north-south, that solely responsible for spreading Covid in the South and only the South.

Covid has largely been stopped in New Mexico : not by purely medical means but with real political backbone backing up those medical measures.

How Americans voted - or didn’t or couldn’t vote - in the South in the last few years is today deciding whether or not they are likely to get Covid.

Covid is as much caused by politics as it will be cured by politics.

The medical solutions are universal : their rigorous local application is local - as, unfortunately, is the politics...
